Quang Tri Citadel — 81 Days and Nights
The citadel witnessed an 81-day battle in summer 1972 — one of the bloodiest in the Vietnam War. Thousands of soldiers perished here. Today the memorial site with its museum and memorial square leaves visitors in solemn silence.
Hien Luong Bridge — The Divide
This bridge crosses the Ben Hai River at the 17th parallel — where Vietnam was split. Now restored with one half painted blue (North) and the other yellow (South), alongside a 38m flagpole. The adjacent 17th Parallel Museum tells moving stories of separation and reunification.
Getting There from Da Nang
Private car to Quang Tri takes 3.5-4 hours (280km). Best combined as: Da Nang → Hue (Citadel) → Quang Tri (Citadel + DMZ) → return, as a 2-day/1-night car tour.
